Moroccan Prisons to Be Secured with Protective Netting: Official Clarification

In response to articles published on several websites regarding the installation of protective netting in Moroccan prison yards to prevent the smuggling of contraband from the outside, the General Delegation for Prison Administration issued an official clarification.
The delegation explained that the installation of protective netting in various prison yards is part of a program aimed at enhancing security and safety in prisons. Contrary to claims in the articles, this is not an experimental project, but rather a gradual initiative that began in 2015. Several prisons have already implemented the system.
The delegation emphasized that urban prisons were given priority in the implementation of this project, as they are more exposed to these illegal practices. The installation of netting is currently being completed in other prisons, including the Beni Mellal facility.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve the internal security of prisons, reduce the risks associated with smuggling attempts, and ensure a safer and more secure prison environment. The General Delegation continues to upgrade prison infrastructures and enhance surveillance systems.
