Benkirane Calls Critics “Microbes” and “Donkeys,” Attacks Macron

Abdelilah Benkirane, Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party, stirred fresh controversy by referring to Moroccans who prioritize national issues over the Palestinian cause as “microbes” and “donkeys.”

In the same speech, Benkirane lashed out at French President Emmanuel Macron, calling him “submissive,” criticizing the conditions Macron set for recognizing the State of Palestine.

Many observers see these comments as a desperate attempt by Benkirane to regain political relevance after his party’s crushing defeat in the 2021 elections.
