Morocco Festival in Tarragona: Celebrating Culture and Unity

The Morocco Festival in Tarragona kicked off Friday evening with a festive atmosphere showcasing the depth of Moroccan heritage and cultural authenticity.
Organized by the Moroccan Consulate General in Tarragona in partnership with the city council, the event is part of a broader cultural, artistic, and economic initiative to strengthen historical and human ties between Morocco and Spain.
The opening featured a reenactment of a traditional Moroccan wedding, followed by a live concert with singer Saida Charaf and the Gnawa band, and concluded with a luxurious Moroccan caftan fashion show, highlighting the elegance of Moroccan design.
Moroccan Ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, expressed pride in the festival, calling it a reflection of the strong ties between the two kingdoms and an opportunity to showcase Morocco’s cultural diversity.
She also pointed to the major reforms led by King Mohammed VI and Morocco’s ongoing commitment to modernization and openness.
Spanish Government Delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto Gómez Nombrado, described the festival as “an open window to Moroccan culture,” praising its richness and diversity.
Tarragona Mayor, Rubén Viñuales Elías, acknowledged the Moroccan community’s contribution to local life and emphasized the sister-city relationship with Tangier.
The festival continues for three days and features exhibitions of traditional crafts, Moroccan and Catalan music performances, live cooking shows with Chef Moha, children’s activities, henna stands, and heritage programs in partnership with the Catalan Institute of Paleontology.
Consul General Ikram Chahine described the event as a cultural dialogue platform that reflects the city’s diversity and celebrates Moroccan creativity in all its forms.
