The Republic of Burundi reaffirmed on Monday its unwavering support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its sovereignty over the southern provinces, during the first session of the Joint Cooperation Committee held in Rabat.

This position was outlined in a joint statement issued following the meeting chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and his Burundian counterpart, Albert Shingiro.

Shingiro praised the momentum initiated by King Mohammed VI at the international level to bolster the Moroccan identity of the Sahara, reiterating Burundi’s support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, which he described as “the only realistic and credible solution” to the regional dispute.

He also affirmed Burundi’s commitment to supporting the efforts of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for reaching a lasting and practical solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue.
