Casablanca Residents at Risk as Collapsed Concrete Pillar Leaves Building on Temporary Supports

Residents of Al Firdaws residence, located on Oum Errabii Street in Hay El Oulfa, Casablanca, are facing a serious safety threat after a reinforced concrete column collapsed at the building’s entrance due to a truck accident involving a liquid tanker, more than a month ago.

Since the incident, the four-story building has been propped up by temporary iron supports, which do not meet safety standards, while authorities have yet to respond to residents’ repeated appeals.

The broken pillar still lies near the entrance, and visible cracks can be seen on the lower structure, yet no warning signs or barriers are in place, increasing the risk of a tragedy.

Residents are urging immediate intervention to prevent a potential disaster, calling attention to broader concerns over urban safety and infrastructure neglect in Morocco’s growing cities.
