10 Lighters and a Kif Pipe: Inside the Houara Fire Investigation

The Public Prosecutor at the Tangier Court of Appeal has ordered an urgent investigation into a massive fire that broke out in the Houara forest, located in the Akznaya commune.

According to an official statement, a suspect was apprehended near the fire’s origin. He was found carrying ten lighters, a pipe used for kif consumption, and a small knife. He was immediately taken into custody.

The suspect was brought before the prosecutor on Wednesday, who requested a formal investigation for charges of arson, drug use, and possession of a weapon without legal justification. The investigative judge ordered his detention at Tangier 2 prison.

Authorities affirmed that the public will be kept informed of the investigation’s findings in due course.
