AfDB Hails Morocco’s Automotive Strategy as a Continental Success Story

In its 2025 Annual Development Effectiveness Review, the African Development Bank (AfDB) praised Morocco’s automotive sector strategy, calling it a leading model in Africa.
The report, released during the Bank’s annual meetings in Abidjan, highlights Morocco’s successful Industrial Acceleration Plan (2014–2020), supported by strategic infrastructure investment and policies encouraging industrial relocation.
Foreign direct investment in the automotive sector rose from 15% in 2010 to 37% in 2019. By 2023, Morocco had become the top car producer and exporter in Africa, with manufacturing contributing 15% to the national GDP.
The Bank noted Morocco’s rare ability in Africa to develop automotive manufacturing and renewable energy technology, whereas most African nations still heavily import high-tech products.
Titled « Fostering Resilience and Driving Transformation in Africa », the review evaluates 2024 outcomes, the first year of the Bank’s new 2024–2033 strategy, emphasizing governance, climate, gender, and youth.
