Caftans and Cameras: Morocco Shines in Rotterdam

Morocco was the guest of honor at the 25th edition of the Arab Film Festival, held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from May 28 to June 1, 2025. The event celebrated Arab cinema, with a strong focus on Morocco’s vibrant cinematic and cultural scene.
Organized in partnership with the Moroccan Embassy in The Hague, the festival featured a curated selection of seven Moroccan films by acclaimed directors such as Kamal Kamal, Zakia Tahiri, and Khalil Benkirane.
These filmmakers led interactive masterclasses, engaging with audiences and professionals about their artistic journeys and cinematic visions.
In his opening remarks, Moroccan Ambassador Mohamed Basri highlighted the strategic role of cinema in promoting cultural diplomacy, citing major festivals like the Marrakech International Film Festival and the Khouribga African Cinema Festival.
Beyond the screenings, the Phoenix Museum hosted “Arabesque,” a cultural program from May 30 to June 1 showcasing Moroccan traditions through cuisine, handicrafts, music, and visual arts. The highlight was a fashion show by designer Siham El Hebti, celebrating the elegance of the Moroccan caftan.
