FC Barcelona Cancels Scheduled Friendly in Casablanca, Disappointing Moroccan Fans

Moroccan football fans were eagerly anticipating the friendly match that was set to bring FC Barcelona to Casablanca on August 7. However, the Catalan club officially announced the cancellation of the encounter, disappointing thousands of supporters who had hoped to see their favorite stars up close.
According to reliable Spanish media sources, the decision was made in agreement between head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco, who preferred to focus on the team’s physical and tactical preparation ahead of the new season rather than undertake the promotional tour that would have taken Barça to Morocco.
The coaching staff expressed concerns over the already intense Asian tour, which will last about two weeks and include matches in Japan and South Korea. Adding a match in Casablanca right after this trip would have posed significant physical risks, especially with the Joan Gamper Trophy scheduled for August 10, followed immediately by the start of the La Liga season.
Although this match would have been a historic opportunity for Moroccan fans to watch their team in person, the dream has now been postponed. The club has not ruled out the possibility of playing in Morocco in the future, but confirmed that it won’t happen in the summer of 2025.
It’s worth noting that the Asian tour is expected to generate around €10 million in revenue for the club, but concerns over player fatigue ultimately led management to abandon the idea of visiting Morocco, despite preliminary agreements that were nearly finalized.
