« Private » Beaches in Casablanca: Citizens Denied Their Right to Swim

Every summer, thousands flock to Casablanca’s beaches seeking relief from the heat and leisure. However, many citizens find themselves barred from this basic right in several coastal areas, especially in Ain Diab, where fences and tight security prevent free access to the sea.

Despite Moroccan law clearly stating that the coastline is public property, private companies control nearly 20% of the coastal zone, restricting access to large parts of the beach. This situation violates laws and has sparked widespread public outrage, particularly on social media.

Citizens call for fair management and protection of the public coastal domain, urging authorities to act swiftly to ensure beaches remain accessible to all, regardless of social or economic status.
