Abdellatif Maazouz, President of the Casablanca-Settat Region, confirmed that the ordinary session of the Regional Council, chaired by Mohamed Mhidiya, Wali of the region, saw the approval of major transportation projects, including the development of road and rail systems—such as high-speed and regional trains—and the expansion of the bus network between and within municipalities.
Maazouz noted that these initiatives are being implemented in close partnership with the state and aim to improve transport infrastructure and ease mobility for citizens.
One of the key points approved was the waste treatment plant project in Médiouna, whose budget was increased from 3.5 to 16 billion dirhams. The goal is to move away from traditional landfill methods and adopt advanced treatment processes that turn waste into a resource for energy production—an environmentally and economically sustainable approach.
The council also approved the creation of a modern food distribution hub for fruits, vegetables, meat, and fish to replace the current wholesale market.
