Members of the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council have criticized certain items on the agenda of the July ordinary session, calling them a “premature electoral campaign” and arguing that such measures undermine the credibility of institutions.

One contentious item involves a proposed partnership agreement between the Wilaya, the regional council, Ain Chock prefecture, Casablanca’s city council, and the Casablanca Aménagement company, regarding the rehabilitation of Khiyam Market. Some councilors labeled it a “vague political move with electoral intentions.”

Several elected officials demanded that Khiyam Market no longer be used for political purposes, noting its recurring appearance on the agenda ahead of each election season.

In a statement to Al Omk Al Maghribi, MP and council member Chafik Abdelhaq described the case as a “systematic political exploitation” of the market whenever legislative or municipal elections approach.
