Gunman Kills Five, Including Police Officer, in Manhattan Skyscraper Shooting

At least five people, including a police officer, were killed on Monday evening in a shooting incident inside a high-rise building in Manhattan, New York, according to media reports.

Bloomberg News, citing city officials, reported that a gunman opened fire inside “345 Park Avenue,” a 44-story tower that houses the global headquarters of Blackstone financial firm and the National Football League (NFL). The attacker later took his own life.

According to the New York Post, the shooter — identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura — stormed the building armed with a rifle and began firing on victims around 6:30 p.m. local time.

Six other individuals sustained serious injuries in the attack.

The non-profit Gun Violence Archive noted that this Manhattan shooting marks the 254th mass shooting incident in the United States since the beginning of the year.
