King Mohammed VI Launches Major Maritime Projects in Casablanca

His Majesty King Mohammed VI on Thursday inaugurated and toured a series of strategic maritime projects in Casablanca, part of a large-scale program to restructure and upgrade the city’s port complex with a total investment exceeding 5 billion dirhams.
The projects include the development of a new fishing port, the construction of a modern ship repair yard, the expansion of a cruise terminal, and the building of an administrative complex bringing together various port stakeholders—all aimed at bolstering the economic and tourism appeal of Morocco’s economic capital.
The new fishing port (MAD 1.2 billion) can accommodate over 260 traditional boats and about 100 coastal fishing vessels, and is equipped with integrated infrastructure for seafood marketing, ice plants and facilities for professionals.
The ship repair yard (MAD 2.5 billion) is designed to restructure Morocco’s shipbuilding and repair sector, featuring a 240-meter dry dock, a 9,700-ton lifting platform and additional equipped basins on 21 hectares reclaimed from the sea.
The new cruise terminal (MAD 720 million) will handle up to 450,000 passengers a year and ships up to 350 meters in length, while the administrative complex (MAD 500 million) centralizes port authorities, customs and various departments to improve service quality and facilitate the port’s urban integration.
These projects reflect the King’s determination to equip Casablanca with modern infrastructure that meets international standards, diversify the port complex’s activities in line with Tanger Med, and enhance the city’s business and cruise tourism potential.
