Mauritania : President Ghazouani Oppoints New Government

The new government consists of 29 members and was formed following President Ghazouani’s re-election, where he secured 56.12 percent of the votes.

Following his swearing-in, the president appointed Mokhtar Ould Diay as Prime Minister. Ould Diay officially took office on August 5 and proposed a revamped cabinet aimed at enhancing efficiency.
The new government features expansions in certain sectors, the consolidation of others, and the establishment of new departments to align with President Ghazouani’s priorities for his second term.
Significant appointments in the new administration include Lam Al-Housseinou as Secretary General of the Government, Mohamed Abdallahi Louly as Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohamed Salem Merzoug as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hanana Ould Sidi as Minister of Defense, and Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed Lemine as Minister of the Interior.
Additionally, new ministries have been created, including those focused on Digital Transformation and Administrative Modernization.
This government team is tasked with implementing President Ghazouani’s electoral program who was re-elected for a five-year term on June 29.
