Tensions are rising between Genk and Bilal El Khannouss. The Moroccan international, keen to move on this summer, is being held back by his club, which is demanding a high fee for his transfer.

El Khannouss is contracted with Genk until 2027, and his market value is estimated at 22 million euros by Transfermarkt, while Sport Sky suggests a transfer fee of 35 million euros. He is the most expensive U23 player in the Belgian league, which deters many clubs interested in signing him.

Leipzig, a club that had long shown interest in acquiring the young talent, reportedly dropped out, considering the Belgian club’s asking price too high.

This situation is frustrating for Walid Regragui’s protégé, who wants to take his career to the next level. El Khannouss, who scored 3 goals and made 6 assists this season, has already spoken about his future in an interview with the Belgian media Belang van Limburg, expressing his interest in joining the German league: « The Bundesliga would be a big step forward for a young player like me. The teams play attractive football, the environment is very professional, and the stadiums are full, » he previously stated.

To recap, Bilal won the 2023 Best Rookie Award in the Belgian Pro League and the Hope of the Year Award in Belgium.
