16 Dead and 2,587 Injured in Urban Traffic Accidents in One Week

Between September 9 and 15, 16 people died and 2,587 others were injured, 115 of them seriously, in 1,954 road accidents recorded in urban areas. According to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the main causes of these accidents include driver inattention, failure to yield the right of way, speeding, pedestrian inattention, failure to maintain a safe distance, loss of vehicle control, unauthorized lane changes, failure to stop at « Stop » signs and red lights, driving under the influence of alcohol, and improper overtaking.

In terms of traffic control, police recorded 47,419 violations, drafted 7,481 reports submitted to the public prosecutor, and collected 37,938 fines, amounting to a total of 8,113,725 dirhams. Additionally, 4,481 vehicles were impounded, 7,481 documents were seized, and 348 vehicles were immobilized.
