Blaid Bouimid, a renowned sports journalist, passed away this Tuesday morning in Casablanca after a battle with illness, according to his family.
Born in 1951 in El Jadida, Bouimid was a prominent figure in Moroccan sports journalism, leaving a lasting mark on national sports media.
He began his career in 1975 after returning from France, working as a professional journalist and caricaturist for the French-language newspaper « Le Matin » and the Arabic « Aujourd’hui le Maroc. » He also served as a sports analyst for several TV channels and radio stations.
Bouimid was elected Secretary-General of the Moroccan Association of Sports Journalists for many years and was twice elected president of the African Union of Sports Journalists, in 2005 and 2009. He was also a member of the International Sports Press Association.
His funeral will take place today, Tuesday, after the midday prayer at the Errahma cemetery in Casablanca.
