On Monday, Hamas announced the assassination of its leader in Lebanon, Fathi Sharif, following an Israeli airstrike that targeted his home in the Al-Bass refugee camp in southern Lebanon.
In a statement, the movement said, « We mourn the martyr Fathi Sharif Abu Al-Amin, the Hamas leader in Lebanon and a member of the movement’s external leadership, who was martyred on the path to Jerusalem, in the shadow of the Al-Aqsa Flood operation. »
The statement added that « Sharif was killed at dawn in a terrorist and criminal assassination operation, which targeted him, his wife Umayya Ibrahim Abdel Hamid, his son Amin, and his daughter Wafa, following an Israeli airstrike on their home in the Al-Bass camp, southern Lebanon. »
The statement concluded by honoring the fallen leader: « Commander Abu Al-Amin died a martyr in the blessed battle of the Al-Aqsa Flood, following in the path of our martyred leaders and people, after a life of dedicated service to the Palestinian cause. »
