Atlético Madrid Bans Fan for Life After Incident Against Real Madrid

Atlético Madrid, third in La Liga, announced on Monday that they have permanently banned a fan who caused a disruption during their match against Real Madrid (1-1) last Sunday. The game was halted for over ten minutes due to objects being thrown onto the pitch at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid during the eighth round of the league.

In a statement, the club revealed that their security team is working closely with the police to identify other individuals involved. « Once identified, they will be permanently banned as well, » the statement added.

The incident took place in the 69th minute when Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, and former Atlético Madrid player, Thibaut Courtois, complained to the referee about being targeted by Atlético fans, who were throwing various objects. All players left the field after Real Madrid took the lead through Eder Militao (64′). The match resumed after about ten minutes once order was restored.

Atlético Madrid also stated that anyone concealing their face to hide their identity would be immediately expelled from the stadium.
