« Morocco 24 » has learned from reliable sources that the Rabat Court of First Instance closed a high-profile case on Monday involving forged residency certificates used for vehicle registration in the capital. This scandal involved the investigation of local government agents, civil servants, and middlemen by Rabat’s police and judicial authorities.

According to the same sources, the main suspect, from Tangier, was sentenced to one and a half years in prison and fined 5,000 dirhams. Four government agents were also sentenced to 22 months of imprisonment, divided between 8 months in prison and a fine of 5,000 dirhams for one agent, and 6 months in prison with a similar fine for another. A third agent received 4 months in prison and the same fine, while a fourth was sentenced to 4 months but remained free on bail.

A well-coordinated effort between the anti-gang unit of Rabat’s judicial police and the DST (Morocco’s security agency) led to the dismantling of a criminal network last month. This network had been producing fake residency certificates for individuals seeking to register vehicles with Rabat’s prestigious license plates.

Three individuals, including two government agents, were arrested near the Rabat vehicle registration center. They were found in possession of forged documents intended for sale at high prices, particularly coveted by luxury car dealerships.

Rabat’s judicial police, under the supervision of the public prosecutor, has launched an investigation to determine the extent of criminal activity involved.
