24 people lost their lives and 2772 others were injured, with 100 suffering serious injuries, in 2116 traffic accidents recorded in urban areas between October 7 and 13.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the main causes of these accidents, in order of frequency, include driver inattention, failure to respect right of way, pedestrian inattention, excessive speed, failure to maintain a safe distance, lack of vehicle control, changing lanes without signaling or unauthorized lane changes, failure to comply with « Stop » signs, driving on the left side of the road, failing to obey red traffic lights, driving against traffic, dangerous overtaking, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Regarding monitoring and enforcement operations in the field of traffic and circulation, the same source indicated that security services recorded 49,517 violations, issued 9,149 reports submitted to the public prosecutor, and collected 40,368 on-the-spot fines, amounting to a total of 8,842,225 dirhams.
The statement also noted that 5275 vehicles were impounded, 9149 documents were confiscated, and 319 vehicles were immobilized.
