On Friday evening, the Saudi Ministry of Sports announced that the Kingdom will host the Spanish Super Cup for the fifth time in Jeddah, from January 8 to January 12, 2025. Four clubs will participate in this edition: Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao, and Real Mallorca.
The matches will take place at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium and follow a knockout format. The first match will see Real Madrid facing Real Mallorca on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, followed by FC Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, January 9. The winners will compete in the final on Sunday, January 12.
Saudi Arabia has previously hosted four editions of the Spanish Super Cup. The first was in Jeddah in 2020, where Real Madrid won the title against Atlético Madrid. The following editions moved to Riyadh, with Real Madrid winning in 2022, FC Barcelona in 2023, and another Real Madrid victory at the start of 2024.
FC Barcelona is the most successful club in the history of the Spanish Super Cup, with 14 titles in 27 appearances, followed by Real Madrid with 12 titles. Athletic Bilbao and Deportivo La Coruña have each won 3 titles, while Atlético Madrid has claimed 2 titles.
