During the week of October 14 to 20, 2134 traffic accidents were recorded in urban areas, resulting in 18 deaths and 2826 injuries, 93 of which were serious, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The main causes of these accidents, as detailed in the statement, include driver inattention, failure to respect right of way, pedestrian inattention, failure to maintain safe distance, loss of control, excessive speed, unauthorized lane changes, failure to signal when changing direction, failure to obey stop signs, failure to obey red traffic lights, dangerous overtaking, driving on the left side of the road, driving in the wrong direction, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Regarding traffic control operations, the police recorded 48,196 violations, issued 9,382 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, and collected 38,814 fines, totaling 8,612,475 dirhams. Additionally, 4,696 vehicles were impounded, 9,382 documents were seized, and 249 vehicles were immobilized.
