Between January and the end of July 2024, a total of 7,822 new businesses were established in the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma region, according to a periodic report from the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC).
The report, presented in the OMPIC’s business creation dashboard, highlights that these new economic entities are divided between legal entities (4,616 businesses) and sole proprietorships (3,206 businesses).
Tangier tops the list with 5,575 new businesses, followed by Tétouan (1,101), Larache (283), Ksar El Kébir (271), Al Hoceïma (266), Chefchaouen (95), Assilah (71), Ouezzane (69), and finally Targuist (38).
Regarding business sectors, commerce leads with 41.72% of the businesses created, followed by various services (17.87%), construction and public works (14.49%), transport (8.84%), industry (7.33%), hotels and restaurants (5.48%), information and communication technology (2.01%), financial activities (1.69%), and agriculture and fishing (0.58%).
In terms of legal form, 62.7% of the businesses created are limited liability companies with a single shareholder (SARL-AU), followed by LLCs (36.9%), joint-stock companies (0.2%), and other forms (0.1%).
Nationally, a total of 54,643 businesses were created during the first seven months of 2024, split between legal entities (39,434) and sole proprietorships (15,209). Men accounted for 84.52% of the businesses created, compared to 15.48% by women.
