From October 21 to 27, 27 people lost their lives and 2,752 others were injured in 2,018 road accidents in urban areas. Of the injured, 125 sustained serious injuries.
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security attributed the main causes of these accidents to driver inattention, failure to respect the right of way, pedestrian inattention, excessive speed, failure to maintain a safe distance, loss of vehicle control, failure to respect « Stop » signs, changing direction without signaling, driving in the wrong direction, driving on the left side of the road, dangerous overtaking, failure to respect red traffic lights, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
In terms of traffic control and enforcement, law enforcement agencies recorded 47,342 violations, issued 8,464 reports submitted to the public prosecutor, and collected 38,878 fines, amounting to a total of 8,608,450 dirhams.
Additionally, 4,616 vehicles were impounded, 8,464 documents were confiscated, and 278 vehicles were immobilized.
