A police officer assigned to secure the emergency department at Sidi Moumen Hospital in Casablanca had to use his service weapon on Thursday night to neutralize a threat from an individual endangering medical and paramedical staff with a bladed weapon.
According to a security source, the suspect, who has a substantial criminal record, deliberately threatened the safety of the hospital’s medical and administrative teams with two knives. The officer, faced with the suspect’s refusal to comply and his violent resistance, fired his weapon, injuring the suspect in the lower limbs.
The suspect is under medical supervision at the hospital pending judicial questioning ordered by the competent public prosecutor to uncover the motives behind this criminal act.
