Mohammed VI Museum in Rabat Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Today in Rabat, the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art marked its 10th anniversary with an official ceremony attended by prominent figures in culture, diplomacy, and economics.

Speaking to the press, Mehdi Qotbi, President of the National Foundation of Museums, praised the royal vision for making culture a pillar of human, social, and economic development. “His Majesty King Mohammed VI has provided invaluable support to culture and museums, positioning Morocco as a model to follow,” he noted.

Qotbi highlighted the Foundation’s « remarkable work, » showcasing exhibitions of renowned Moroccan artists like Ahmed Cherkaoui and Jilali Gharbaoui, as well as international icons such as Picasso, Giacometti, Monet, and Renoir.

Abdelaziz El Idrissi, the museum’s director, remarked that this celebration marks « ten years of dedicated effort » since the museum’s inauguration by His Majesty in 2014, enabling Morocco to assert itself on the art scene. The museum has hosted over 35 exhibitions, featuring both Moroccan and international artists, contributing to the democratization of culture.

Amin Benjelloun Touimi, CEO of Morocco Post Group, expressed pride in marking this milestone by unveiling a commemorative postage stamp for the museum’s 10th anniversary. The stamp features the museum’s facade alongside the renowned artwork “The Last Melody” by artist Arman.

The event concluded with a digitalization agreement signed between the Museum Foundation and Orange Morocco, represented by CEO Hendrik Kasteel. This agreement includes the digitalization of exhibitions, the launch of an online ticketing system, and the development of a mobile app.
