On Tuesday, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, welcomed the Moroccan Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch, to the Olympic Stadium in Baku. Mr. Akhannouch is leading the Moroccan delegation participating in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) held in Azerbaijan.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, and Mohamed Adel Embarach, Morocco’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan.
Mr. Akhannouch toured the Moroccan and Azerbaijani pavilions in the Blue Zone at the Olympic Stadium, where he learned about the two countries’ achievements in the climate sector, particularly in renewable energy.
This global summit (November 11-22) serves as an opportunity to assess progress in mitigating climate change impacts and to discuss optimal strategies for combating this phenomenon.
The conference will primarily focus on climate finance, with an emphasis on enabling all countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect lives and livelihoods from the worsening effects of climate change, particularly for vulnerable communities.
