Barbara Leaf, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Middle Eastern Affairs, reiterated on Friday in Rabat the United States’ support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative as a serious, credible, and realistic solution to the Western Sahara dispute.
Speaking at a press conference following discussions with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, Ms. Leaf stated that Washington continues to back the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Staffan de Mistura, to advance negotiations toward a politically acceptable solution for all parties.
