Rosa Dávila, President of the Tenerife Island Council, announced on Thursday plans to initiate an ambitious project to establish a submarine cable connecting the island to Tarfaya, Morocco, by 2025.
The project has been made possible by a €7.5 million European funding granted to the company « Canalink. »
The cable, described by the Spanish agency “Europa Press” as a strategic step, will utilize next-generation fiber optic technology.
This new connection is expected to significantly enhance communication networks between Europe and Africa, opening up new horizons for collaboration between the continents.
Reports indicate that the total cost of the project is approximately €13.5 million, with a substantial portion funded by the European Union’s “Connecting Europe” program.
This investment is anticipated to revolutionize regional telecommunications infrastructure, fostering innovation and strengthening economic and social ties between Europe and Africa.
The submarine cable is part of a broader vision to develop the region’s digital infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in achieving sustainable growth and global connectivity.
