As part of the international momentum led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to bolster Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and promote the autonomy plan, Hungary has expressed its support for the Kingdom’s efforts. Hungary considers the autonomy plan proposed in 2007 as « the most credible basis » for resolving this conflict.
This stance was expressed in a joint statement signed after a meeting held on Wednesday in Rabat between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Péter Szijjártó.
The ministers reiterated their support for the political process led by the United Nations and for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to achieve a solution in accordance with Security Council resolutions.
The joint statement emphasized that Morocco and Hungary play a constructive role in maintaining stability, security, and peace in their respective regions. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, respect for territorial integrity, and state sovereignty.
With its enhanced stance, Hungary contributes to strengthening the positive momentum recently highlighted by the latest UN Security Council resolution, which encourages seizing this opportunity effectively.
