Khaled Mortagy, treasurer of Egypt’s Al-Ahly club, has disclosed that FIFA informed him about a possible rescheduling of the opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States.
The match between Al-Ahly and Inter Miami aims to attract a larger global audience for this major sports event.
Speaking to Al-Ahly’s official channel, Mortagy stated that FIFA’s Secretary General reached out to propose shifting the match from Sunday to Saturday. This adjustment reflects FIFA’s desire to engage more fans, particularly in the Arab world and Africa, where Al-Ahly has a massive following.
The tournament draw, held on Thursday, placed Al-Ahly in a challenging group alongside Palmeiras (Brazil), Porto (Portugal), and Inter Miami (USA).
