Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, stated on Monday in Rabat that “the Kingdom of Morocco is closely monitoring the significant and rapid developments in Syria and hopes they will help fulfill the Syrian people’s aspirations for stability and development.”

Speaking at a press conference with Raila Amolo Odinga, former Kenyan Prime Minister and candidate for the African Union Commission presidency, Bourita emphasized that “in accordance with the instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco’s position has always been clear and based on preserving Syria’s territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and the unity of its people.”

The minister reiterated that this position remains unchanged, expressing hope that these developments will bring stability to Syria and meet the Syrian people’s aspirations for a better future and sustainable development.

Bourita also reminded that Morocco had closed its embassy in Damascus in 2012 and requested the closure of the Syrian embassy in Morocco.

He concluded by stating that “while supporting Syria’s sovereignty and unity, Morocco continues to advocate for solutions that ensure the country’s stability and meet the aspirations of its brotherly people.”
