Decline in Fish Landings at Mehdia Port in 2024

The National Fisheries Office (ONP) reported a 19% drop in the volume of coastal and artisanal fishing products landed at Mehdia Port by the end of November 2024, totaling 13,145 tons compared to 16,203 tons during the same period in 2023.

The ONP’s report also highlighted a 14% decrease in the market value of these products, which amounted to 79.28 million dirhams, down from 92.71 million dirhams the previous year.

Breakdown by Category

  • Pelagic Fish: Representing a significant portion of landings, these species saw a 19% decline in volume, totaling 12,747 tons, with a 22% drop in value to 48.77 million dirhams.
  • Cephalopods: Experienced a moderate 12% decline in volume to 310 tons, but their value increased slightly by 4%, reaching 26.62 million dirhams.
  • White Fish: These products saw a 41% drop in volume, down to 34 tons, and a 36% decrease in value, amounting to only 1.49 million dirhams.
  • Crustaceans: Quantities decreased by 13% to 55 tons, while their value dropped slightly by 4% to 2.38 million dirhams.

National Overview

Nationally, the total value of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products reached 9.96 billion dirhams during the first 11 months of 2024, marking a 6% increase compared to 2023.
