In the early hours of Friday, Moroccan authorities received the remains of Abdelatif Akhrif, a former player of Ittihad Tanger, who tragically drowned in a boating accident. This transfer followed the completion of arrangements with Algerian authorities.

The body was transported directly to the morgue in Oujda, where it was received by Akhrif’s father and the secretary-general of Ittihad Tanger. It will then be moved to Tangier for funeral prayers and burial, scheduled for Friday morning.

Akhrif had been missing since July 6th, following a boating tragedy off the coast of Tétouan involving five members of Ittihad Tanger. Three of them were rescued, but Akhrif’s body was discovered a month later on the Algerian coast. Another player, Salman El Haraq, remains missing to this day.

The repatriation process faced significant delays, as Algerian authorities took over three months to release the body. A DNA test conducted on Akhrif’s father confirmed the identity of the remains, enabling their return to Morocco.
