Omar Hilale, Morocco’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, stated in Rabat on Friday that Morocco is the most qualified African country to hold a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. Speaking at the 13th edition of the « Atlantic Dialogues, » organized by the Policy Center for the New South, Hilale emphasized Morocco’s capability to represent and defend Africa’s interests under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.

The ambassador highlighted that the key criterion for permanent membership is contributing to global peace and security. Since the 1960s, Morocco has been a significant contributor to UN peacekeeping missions, deploying troops across continents. In Africa, Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces excel due to their deep cultural understanding, linguistic abilities, and capacity to foster inter-community dialogue.

Hilale also pointed out Morocco’s dedication to universal values, the rule of law, and adherence to the UN Charter. Additionally, the nation’s active participation in bilateral and multilateral cooperation, mediation initiatives, and humanitarian efforts has been acknowledged by the United Nations.
