This Tuesday morning, the Anti-Gang Squad of the Béni Mellal regional security department arrested a 34-year-old man wanted under four nationwide warrants related to illegal drug trafficking and psychotropic substances.
According to a security source, preliminary investigation data reveals that the squad intervened to apprehend the suspect, who was intensively investigated for involvement in multiple drug cases. However, the suspect refused to comply and violently resisted, threatening the safety of police officers with a bladed weapon.
To neutralize the imminent danger, one of the anti-gang officers drew his service weapon in circumstances marked by resistance. However, an accidental shot struck another police officer in the chest.
The injured officer, a security guard working with the anti-gang unit, succumbed to his injuries upon being transferred to the hospital. Field interventions successfully led to the arrest of the suspect and his accomplice, as well as the seizure of the bladed weapon used in the attack.
As per the orders of the competent public prosecutor, the two suspects were placed in police custody to uncover all circumstances and details surrounding the case.
