Morocco: A Commemorative Stamp Honors the Art of Malhoun
Morocco’s Postal Service, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication and UNESCO, unveiled a special stamp on Friday in Rabat. This stamp celebrates the first anniversary of the inclusion of the art of Malhoun in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
The launch event at the Moroccan Postal Museum was attended by prominent figures, including Amine Benjelloun Touimi, Director General of Morocco’s Postal Service; Samira Mlizzi, Secretary General of the Ministry; and Eric Falt, Director of UNESCO’s Maghreb Office.
The stamp, titled “Art of Malhoun, Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity,” features a musical troupe dressed in traditional Moroccan attire performing against a backdrop adorned with authentic Moroccan zellige motifs.
Amine Benjelloun Touimi highlighted the ongoing commitment to showcasing Morocco’s rich and ancient heritage, while Samira Mlizzi emphasized the importance of preserving this collective legacy, which merges music, poetry, and Moroccan craftsmanship. Eric Falt praised the initiative, noting its role in sharing Morocco’s cultural diversity with the world.
Malhoun, recognized by UNESCO since 2022 as an intangible cultural heritage, remains a vibrant testimony to Morocco’s enduring cultural richness.
