Morocco-Saudi Arabia Relations: Strengthened Partnership in 2024
In 2024, Morocco and Saudi Arabia witnessed substantial progress in their political, economic, cultural, and social relations. This development was highlighted by frequent exchanges between government officials and private sector representatives.
Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, bilateral relations reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership, marking a qualitative leap during this year.
Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch represented King Mohammed VI at the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit held in Riyadh on November 10. This summit addressed the ongoing conflicts in the region, including the Israeli aggression in Gaza and Lebanon.
Additionally, Mr. Akhannouch participated in the “One Water” summit on December 3, focusing on global water scarcity challenges. Concurrently, Morocco showcased its environmental achievements at COP 16 on desertification.
On January 9, Morocco and Saudi Arabia signed a memorandum of understanding in the mining sector. During the Morocco-Saudi Arabia Economic Forum, private sector representatives agreed on an ambitious joint action plan, including the establishment of a shared investment fund and the intensification of trade exchanges.
Morocco’s participation in the « Binan » crafts fair in Riyadh highlighted its rich cultural heritage. Moreover, judicial cooperation agreements were signed in Tangier to strengthen bilateral legal collaboration.
