Urban Traffic Accident Report
During the week from December 30 to January 5, 22 people lost their lives and 2824 others were injured, including 115 seriously, in 2153 traffic accidents within urban areas.
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) attributed the main causes of these accidents to driver inattention, failure to give right of way, pedestrian inattention, excessive speed, failure to maintain safe distances, loss of vehicle control, failure to stop at stop signs, changing lanes without signaling, unsafe overtaking, driving in the wrong direction, driving under the influence, driving on the wrong side of the road, and failure to respect red lights.
In terms of monitoring and penalizing traffic violations, security services recorded 47,556 infractions, issued 8,306 reports forwarded to the public prosecutor, and collected 39,250 fines, amounting to a total of 8,507,275 dirhams.
Additionally, 4855 vehicles were impounded, 8306 documents were confiscated, and 374 vehicles were immobilized.
