Nadia Tahami, a Member of Parliament from the Progress and Socialism group in the House of Representatives, has called for immediate measures to curb the continuous rise in poultry meat and essential consumer goods prices, particularly as Ramadan approaches, a peak period for food consumption in Moroccan households.

In a written question addressed to Ahmed Bouri, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Tahami highlighted the alarming increase in the prices of basic commodities, especially poultry. This is despite repeated government statements about market monitoring and combating speculation and monopoly practices. She noted that the ongoing price hikes have become an additional burden on citizens, particularly given the limited purchasing power of many families.

Tahami pointed out that poultry meat, a key source of protein for Moroccan families, has reached unprecedented levels, with prices exceeding 30 dirhams per kilogram. This surge has sparked widespread discontent among citizens, who are also facing similar increases in red meat prices.

The MP urged the Minister to outline the steps planned to control prices and mitigate this alarming inflation. She emphasized the need to intensify market monitoring to prevent further hikes, especially with Ramadan nearing, a time that typically sees increased demand for essential food items.

In conclusion, she appealed to the government to implement a proactive plan to stabilize prices and bolster Moroccan families’ ability to cope with these challenging conditions, stressing that this intervention is crucial to maintaining the country’s food and social security.
