Update on Measles Cases in Moroccan Prisons
The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration has reported that, as of this Friday, 47 inmates have been diagnosed with measles, spread across nine prison facilities. Among them, seven have recovered after following the recommended treatment protocol. Currently, 40 cases remain active, with 38 in medical isolation and 2 receiving treatment in public hospitals.
The distribution of cases is as follows:
- 16 cases at Tangier 2 local prison (15 in isolation and 1 hospitalized),
- 9 cases at Mohammedia local prison,
- 7 cases at Aïn Sebaâ local prison (6 in isolation and 1 hospitalized),
- 2 cases at Kenitra central prison and Bourkaiz local prison in Fez,
- 1 case each at the local prisons of Bouarfa, Kalaat Sraghna, Benslimane, and Tetouan.
Additionally, five staff members have been infected, with one recovered while the others continue treatment.
As part of preventive efforts, 3,788 inmates and 84 staff members voluntarily received vaccinations under the supervision of health professionals from regional delegations of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
The Delegation confirmed that all prisons remain fully mobilized to prevent and limit the spread of the disease, in compliance with issued directives and in close coordination with the relevant ministry.
