Due to a notable surge in measles cases (Bouhamron) within Tanger 2 prison, judicial authorities in Tanger have decided to implement remote trial procedures as a precautionary measure to curb the disease’s spread while ensuring trials proceed as usual.

Sources from the Tanger Court of Appeals reported that the decision was made after numerous infections were recorded in the prison. Remote trial technology aims to safeguard judges, lawyers, and court attendees.

The same sources clarified that remote trials will be limited to inmates of Tanger 2 prison, while in-person trials will continue as usual for inmates of Asilah prison, where no cases of measles have been reported.

Previously, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration stated in a press release that it is closely monitoring the health situation in Tanger 2 prison. Fifteen cases have been isolated within the facility, one individual has been hospitalized for treatment, and a total of 47 measles cases have been identified across nine correctional facilities nationwide.

Preventive vaccination campaigns continue in prisons, with over 3788 inmates and 84 staff members vaccinated as part of efforts to limit the virus’s spread among prisoners.
