Morocco Calls for Ceasefire Respect and Real Peace Process in the Middle East
Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, called on Monday in New York for respect of the ceasefire in Gaza and for launching a genuine peace process in the Middle East.
During his speech to the UN Security Council, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Omar Hilale, stated that “a ceasefire agreement would pave the way for rebuilding infrastructure destroyed by the conflict and initiating a real peace process.” Such a process would enable the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living peacefully alongside Israel.
The ambassador welcomed the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire, emphasizing the importance of adhering to it to end attacks on civilians, release prisoners, enable displaced people’s return, and ensure sufficient humanitarian access.
Hilale reiterated Morocco’s unwavering stance in support of the Palestinian cause, which remains the cornerstone of peace in the Middle East. He stressed that Gaza is an integral part of Palestinian territories and that the Palestinian Authority is the legitimate legal and political entity.
The diplomat warned against unilateral Israeli measures in Jerusalem that could fuel tensions. He highlighted King Mohammed VI’s consistent call to respect the city’s historical, legal, and demographic status as a center for interfaith dialogue.
Hilale also praised the Al-Quds Committee and the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency’s vital role in supporting Palestinians, particularly in East Jerusalem.
In this context, Morocco reaffirms its support for Lebanon’s unity and sovereignty as well as Syria’s territorial integrity and the Syrians’ right to determine their future and achieve peace and development.
