The coach of Morocco’s national football team, Walid Regragui, declared on Monday evening in Rabat that the Atlas Lions are determined to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and showcase the excellence of Moroccan football.

Speaking after the AFCON 2025 draw held at Mohammed V Theater in Rabat, Regragui emphasized that the team has one year to finalize its preparations for the continental competition. The main goal is to start the tournament strongly and secure the trophy.

He highlighted that the event will take place in newly built stadiums with impeccable organization, while acknowledging the challenge posed by strong opponents in Morocco’s group. The coach described the group as tough, featuring seasoned and determined teams.

Regragui stressed the need for the Atlas Lions to defeat all opponents on their way to the title. He underlined the importance of fans’ support, which he believes will be instrumental in keeping the trophy in Morocco.

Commenting on the draw, he said the groups are balanced and that any team aspiring to win the title must adapt to all challenges. Among the opponents, he mentioned Mali as one of Africa’s strongest teams, Zambia, which Morocco has faced before, and the Comoros, who impressed by topping their qualification group.

Finally, Regragui noted that AFCON has become one of the world’s most competitive tournaments, given the rising level of African teams and the prominence of African players in top European leagues. He called for all Moroccan sports stakeholders to rally behind the team, turning pressure into positive energy.

The Atlas Lions are in Group A alongside Mali, Zambia, and the Comoros. The AFCON 2025 will take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
