15 Dead and 2549 Injured in Traffic Accidents in One Week

Fifteen people lost their lives, and 2549 others were injured, including 87 seriously, in 1916 traffic accidents recorded in urban areas during the week of January 20 to 26.

A statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) attributed the main causes of these accidents to driver inattentiveness, failure to give way, lack of safety distance, excessive speed, pedestrian inattentiveness, failure to respect stop signs, loss of control, unauthorized or unsignaled lane changes, driving in the wrong direction, running red lights, improper overtaking, driving on the left side of the road, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Regarding traffic law enforcement, security services recorded 55,593 violations, filed 10,927 reports forwarded to the public prosecutor, and collected 44,666 on-the-spot fines, amounting to a total of 9,942,450 dirhams.

Additionally, the number of vehicles impounded in municipal lots reached 5739, documents seized totaled 10,927, and immobilized vehicles numbered 504.
