U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday, officially withdrawing the United States from several United Nations-affiliated bodies, including the Human Rights Council.

This order also extends the suspension of funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and calls for a reassessment of U.S. participation in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

While acknowledging that the UN has « important qualities, » Trump criticized its « mismanagement. » One of his advisors stated that the order seeks to review U.S. participation and funding for UN agencies due to significant financial disparities among member states.

On his inauguration day, Trump had already signed an order withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, which he deemed « unfair and one-sided. »
