Trump’s Interest and Greenland’s Independence Debate

Maria Akrein, a professor of political science at the University of Greenland, believes that U.S. President Donald Trump’s interest in making Greenland part of the United States could breathe new life into the long-standing debate on the island’s independence.

In a statement to the German news agency (DPA), Akrein noted that discussions about Greenland’s separation from Denmark have been ongoing for years.

However, she believes that Trump’s remarks might accelerate the process, suggesting that his actions are pushing it forward.
