Minister of Health Chairs Meeting at Souss-Massa University Hospital
On Friday, February 7, 2025, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Mr. Amine Tehraoui, presided over the regular session of the Board of Directors of the Souss-Massa University Hospital Center. He was accompanied by the Wali of the Souss-Massa Region and Governor of the Agadir Ida-Outanane Prefecture, Mr. Saaid Amzazi, along with the President of the Regional Council, Mr. Karim Achengli, a representative of the Mayor of Agadir, the Director General of the CHU Souss-Massa, and other board members. During the session, several partnership agreements were signed between the center and various public and private institutions.
The session focused on approving the minutes of the December 12, 2024 meeting, reviewing the implementation of previous decisions, and validating the administrative account for 2023. A detailed presentation on the annual results for 2024 was given, alongside discussions on the progress and development of the hospital. The meeting also addressed the action plan, budget for 2025, and the internal regulations of the center.
In his speech, the Minister emphasized that this meeting took place in a crucial context—the completion of the new University Hospital Center. He praised the efforts made to establish this medical hub, aligning with the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to enhance the healthcare sector and provide quality medical services to all citizens.
He further stressed the need for a complete restructuring of hospital management, including more efficient administration, continuous training for healthcare professionals, and improved coordination among departments. This restructuring aims to prepare for the introduction of Territorial Health Groups, which will pose challenges such as increased demand for healthcare services.
The Minister highlighted that the goal is not merely to build a hospital but to establish an integrated healthcare network where each facility plays a complementary role. He emphasized the importance of close collaboration between the University Hospital and other regional health institutions to ensure equitable access to healthcare services.
Three key agreements were signed during the session:
- With Private Nursing Schools: Focused on organizing and strengthening cooperation in medical and nursing training.
- With the Regional Office for Vocational Training and Employment Promotion: Aimed at facilitating trainee access to practical medical training within the hospital and developing continuous training programs for staff.
- With the Hassan II Foundation for Social Welfare in the Public Health Sector: Geared toward improving the professional well-being of hospital staff and managing social facilities within the center.
The University Hospital Center Souss-Massa, with a capacity of 1,106 beds, includes essential facilities such as:
- A day hospital (surgical/medical, endoscopy, angiography, nephrology services).
- A complete hospitalization unit (medical and surgical specialties, maternity, pediatrics, emergency, and short-stay unit).
- 48 consultation and functional exploration rooms.
- A surgical block and a regional oncology center.
- The Agadir psychiatric hospital.
This third-generation hospital will significantly enhance healthcare infrastructure in the Souss-Massa region, bringing essential medical services closer to citizens and reducing the need for travel to other cities for complex surgeries or critical treatments.
